JEFFREY ROBERT, Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he grew up influenced by his artist father and native born mother, a Hula Instructor, with a royal Hawaiian heritage (Haili-Kaapa family) that dates back hundreds of years. All of his childhood and part of his adult life was pleasantly spent enjoying the colorful beauty and peaceful aloha spirit of the Hawaiian islands.
As a youth, much of his time involved drawing and painting or studying music when he wasn't out surfing or at the beach with his friends. With little formal training, Jeffrey was always considered by his peers to be a natural born artist and musician, performing with his band The Uptites, throughout the islands and yet remained to be honored in his high school year book as "Surfer of the year" when graduating from Radford High School in Honolulu.
Intrigued by the attributes of ordinary wax crayons, Jeffrey began to develop a formula and system of techniques that would promote a traditional realist approach to fine art with crayons. The process of drawing with wax and the nature of each individual crayon color were to be understood in practice.
A portrait of his daughter in his traditional realist style led to his portrait period with a growing demand for private commissioned drawings of "children in crayon". Because Jeffrey's crayon art became so advanced from the norm, a crayon which displayed the entitled art on the wrapper served as a nameplate within the framed artwork. The Crayon Artist®, Crayon Collectibles® and the crayon in the frame are his registered trademark designs and distinguish his art from all other art mediums.
His native Hawaii and childhood memories of the sand and sea
continue to be an enjoyable theme for him to contemplate. The serene beauty of Jeffrey's art captures the essence of the simple and colorful Hawaiian lifestyle of his youth. Jeffrey believes that his artwork plays a special role inspiring and motivating the people of today which is depicted in the following statement: "I love the medium of crayons because of it's simplicity and non-intimidating nature. Most everyone is familiar with crayons because we grew up with this fundamental tradition.
"My first works of art started with my senses awakening to a freshly opened box of bright colors with an unusual aroma that would later trigger memories of a carefree past connected with family and friends", Jeffrey Robert Art for the People.
Jeffrey has been the featured subject of numerous newspapers and TV programs. He was recently featured on ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA along with his good friends at Crayola ®.
